I've written 22 songs between the spring of 1993 and the summer of 2001. When I got my new computer with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card in the spring of 2003, I decided I should record these songs. I had the lyrics and chords for these songs on my webpage, along with the full score for more than half of them, and I thought I should make and post some MP3s so that others could hear how these songs are supposed to sound. I also was hoping to listen to these recordings over and over again so that I might actually learn my own songs. Well, I recorded them, but I can't stand listening to them. I hope you can.
Like I said, in the spring of 2003, I got a new computer. I then borrowed a good microphone from a friend, along with some recording software. It was borrowed software, so I really didn't want in on my computer for very long. I had it installed for around two weeks. In that time, I learnt how to use it, recorded the Rosary, a litany of the saints, and these 22 songs. All this in two week meant getting it right on the first or second take, and no more than three takes. I wasn't going for a gold record, just an example of how I wanted these songs to sound, and it shows, especially on the overdubbed drums on To Be With You.
That's right; I overdubbed and played the drums, the electric guitar, the tambourine, and everything. The bass on Why Have You Forsaken Me and To Be With You is actually my Fender Stratocaster digitally rendered an octave lower by the software.
Once I took the software off my computer, I put everything on my website as MP3s or Real Audio. Later, I also converted the MP3s into SWFs as well so that I had some streaming audio when looking at my songs. I also created a CD cover if one wants to burn the MP3s onto a CD.
Below is a ZIP file containing all of the songs and the CD cover. I hope you enjoy listening to it.
