Motives Behind this Website
Quite regularly, church of Christ members have assailed me with the ad hominem fallacy, and my Church with the straw man fallacy. For those who have not studied philosophy, the straw man fallacy is committed when one misrepresents a point of view, and then refutes that point of view based on that misrepresentation. This misrepresentation of the Catholic Church by church of Christ members is not done on purpose, but done out of ignorance. Church of Christ members are not alone in this misrepresentation; all Protestant sects are ignorant of true Catholic teachings. If they were not, they would become Catholics themselves. It has been said many time, nobody hates the Catholic Church, but many hate what they think is the Catholic Church.
Due to ignorance, attacking my Church is excusable; however, attacking me with the ad hominem fallacy is not. Over and over again, church of Christ members have insulted my character, and have judge my motives to be malicious. The only reason I can see for such unchristian behaviour and judgement is a crisis of conscience. They are confronted with the irrefutable truth of the Catholic Church and the questionable origins of their own church, and can only resort to name-calling.
I have nothing to gain from being Catholic, other than eternal life. I have no other motives. I did not join the Catholic Church to please my wife and her parents. My wife and I actually split up, and the Church has annulled our marriage, which means that the Church proclaims that we were never sacramentally married. If anything, this gave me reason to leave the Catholic Church out of resentment, but I did not do so because of my conviction in the authority of the Church. I didn't like the ruling, but out of obedience, I accepted it. (BTW: my ex-wife is now my fiancée once again.)
If I wanted to please anyone other than God, I would have return to the Lutheran Church. This would have brought great joy to my grandma before she died, and make my sister and her husband, who is a Lutheran minister, very happy. Instead of pleasing these people, who are very dear to me, I would rather please God, and remain in His Church.
I bear no ill will or resentment towards the church of Church. In fact, I feel eternally indebted to them for leading me to the Catholic Church. It was through their Bible studies that I found Christ's true Church, and for this, I cannot thank them enough.
In thanks giving, and with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, I have created this website to help other church of Christ members to see the truth, and to help prevent Catholics from being misled by false doctrines. My only motive is love, and I have seen the fruit of this love. Although most of the e-mails I receive form church of Christ members can be considered hate mail, I have also received e-mails of thanks. Some have thanked me for helping them out of the untruths of church of Christ doctrine, some have thanked me for helping prevent them from making a very big mistake, and others have thanked me for giving them hope that a loved one of theirs can be helped. I have received a number of these e-mails; however, if I had only received one, it would be enough proof for me to see that it was worth all the abuse I have endured.
The only thing I want to do is love God. Any remarks to the contrary are utter foolishness.
